5 Profitable Side Hustles Anyone Can Start With Canva

I’m not a graphic designer and I make a living from my Canva designs.

Canva is so easy to use that a design background really isn’t necessary.

It can take some practice to make designs you’re really happy with, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be set!

Since it’s such a breeze to get started, it’s also incredibly simple to make products you can sell for a profit.

Here are a few items that anyone can make and sell using Canva.

1. Instagram post templates

So many business owners are using Instagram to market their products and services. The thing is, it takes a lot of work to grow a following (it’s been recommended to post on Instagram once a day to grow your account).

Not everyone has the time to create a fresh new post seven days a week.

Creating a post isn’t the only challenge, either- it also takes time to think of what to post in the first place.

This has created a demand for pre-made Instagram posts and post templates.

You can either use a site like Fiverr to work on custom requests for businesses, with their logo and business name already included in the posts- or you can sell generic templates that they can edit themselves in Canva (you’ll need a Canva Pro account to do this).

You can sell generic templates that customers can edit themselves on a platform like Etsy.

2. YouTube banners

YouTube is just as popular as ever- and there are lots of people starting their own channels.

For many, their channels are a source of passive income they can rely on during the pandemic.

Filming, editing, and uploading videos is time-consuming, however- some vloggers are turning to freelancers to create their channel banners and video thumbnails.

You can easily create these items on Canva, especially if you have an eye for what looks good and will catch viewers’ attention.

All you’ll need to do is combine images, colors, and fonts that go well together.

You can offer this service on websites like Freelancer, Upwork, and Fiverr.

3. Pinterest pins

Pinterest is now being recognized as more of a search engine than a social media platform.

When you think about it, this makes perfect sense- we often go to Pinterest to find things we’re looking for (rather than just scrolling mindlessly through our feed).

This has created a huge opportunity for bloggers, creators, and businesses to promote themselves on Pinterest, namely with lots and lots of pins.

Recently, Pinterest has put an emphasis on ‘fresh pins’- these are brand new pins, and not just a copy of an older one with different words or colors. They recommend that users post as many fresh pins as possible to increase their views.

Again, this is time-consuming- which means there’s definitely a demand for ready-made pins right now.

You could offer your services as a virtual assistant or social media manager who takes over a company’s Pinterest account for them. You would be responsible for coming up with pin ideas, creating new pin designs, and uploading them to Pinterest.

This is another service you could offer on freelancing platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, and Freelancer.

4. Print-on-demand merchandise

With all of the fonts, colors, and special effects on Canva, making designs for all kinds of merchandise is easy (think t-shirts, hats, mugs, stickers, posters, etc.).

With print-on-demand, you can use a printing company to make these items for you (using your designs) and ship them out to your customers. It’s a great way to sell physical goods without buying a bunch of inventory first.

You’ll need to check the image specifications for the printing company you’re using to make sure you use the right image size in Canva.

Please also make sure not to use any images or fonts in Canva that don’t have a commercial use license (although that applies to anything you make on Canva). You can check this by looking into the details for the image or font (as a general rule, the free images and fonts can be used for commercial purposes).

In terms of finding a print-on-demand company to work with, I have used Printful and Printify in the past and have not had any issues. There are a lot of great reviews online though and I encourage you to do your research!

5. Printable planners

This is my favourite way to make money with Canva, and the main way I’m using it right now.

There is a huge demand for printable planners on Etsy, but you can also sell them with Shopify or your own blog.

People are buying everything from daily planners to fitness schedules. Cleaning planners and habit trackers are also popular.

I have been selling printable planners on Etsy for the last six months now, and the demand doesn’t seem to be slowing down (my sales have been consistent every month).

They are yet another easy project on Canva, too. Simply pick the paper size you want to print on, and start designing!

I hope that you feel inspired to create your own products in Canva- even better, I hope that you’re coming up with new ideas, too.

Happy creating!
